These photographic images are part of a larger series using assemblage of plant matter, light and shadow. While other works have been made in sunlight, in 2023 I started experimenting with making images in the hours of darkness, with a head torch for illumination instead of the sun. This process started as a way to try and get more comfortable, on a mental and bodily level, with the lack of light in winter. Making these images has been an interesting way for me to think not only about anxiety but about how we process visual stimulus more generally. Some of these images will be part of a forthcoming publication by the Gate Darkroom.
